A Tolerance Interval for the Normal Distribution with Several Variance Components

چکیده
A tolerance interval procedure is derived from the concept of generalized pivotal quantities usually used to obtain confidence intervals in situations where standard procedures do not lead to useful solutions. We apply the generalized confidence intervals approach and propose a two-sided tolerance interval for the distribution N(θ, ∑q i=1 hiσ 2 i ) based on mutually independent statistics θ̂, S 2 1 , . . . , S 2 q , where θ̂ is distributed as N(θ, ∑q i=1 ciσ 2 i ), hi and ci are known constants, and niS 2 i /σ 2 i are independent chi-squared random variables with ni df, for i = 1, . . . , q. Some practical examples are given to illustrate the applications of the proposed procedure. A simulation study is conducted to evaluate its frequentist coverage probability. The results indicate that the proposed method may be recommended for use in practical applications. The procedure provided in this paper can be applied to tolerance interval questions arising in arbitrary normal balanced mixed linear model situations.

Monte Carlo Comparison of Approximate Tolerance Intervals for the Poisson Distribution
The problem of finding tolerance intervals receives very much attention of researchers and are widely used in various statistical fields, including biometry, economics, reliability analysis and quality control. Tolerance interval is a random interval that covers a specified proportion of the population with a specified confidence level. In this paper, we compare approximate tolerance interva...
متن کاملInvariant Empirical Bayes Confidence Interval for Mean Vector of Normal Distribution and its Generalization for Exponential Family
Based on a given Bayesian model of multivariate normal with known variance matrix we will find an empirical Bayes confidence interval for the mean vector components which have normal distribution. We will find this empirical Bayes confidence interval as a conditional form on ancillary statistic. In both cases (i.e. conditional and unconditional empirical Bayes confidence interval), the empiri...
متن کاملTwo-Sided Tolerance Interval for Exponential Distribution Based on Records
Tolerance interval is a random interval that contains a proportion of the population with a determined confidence level and is applied in many application fields such as reliability and quality control. In this paper, based on record data, we obtain a two-sided tolerance interval for the exponential population. An example of real record data is presented. Finally, we discuss the accuracy of ...

Several sampling distribution properties of the estimator for Cpk are presented under the assumption that the data are normal, independent and identically distributed. In this paper using these assumptions, the expectation, variance and skewness are calculated by statistical methods, since the sampling distribution is weakly skewed, it is concluded that a symmetric interval estimator for Cpk mi...
متن کاملA Bayesian mixture model for classification of certain and uncertain data
There are different types of classification methods for classifying the certain data. All the time the value of the variables is not certain and they may belong to the interval that is called uncertain data. In recent years, by assuming the distribution of the uncertain data is normal, there are several estimation for the mean and variance of this distribution. In this paper, we co...
